Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs Supports Development of Specialist Medical Program at UIN Jakarta Faculty of Medicine

Jakarta, FK Online News — The Faculty of Medicine at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is strengthening its role in advancing medical education within Indonesia’s State Islamic Higher Education Institutions, known as PTKIN.

One of its strategic initiatives is the development of a specialist medical education program, aimed at improving the quality of national healthcare services and medical education.

The support was expressed by Indonesian Minister of Religious Affairs, Prof. Dr. KH. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., during an audience with the Dean of UIN Jakarta Faculty of Medicine, Dr. dr. Achmad Zaki, M.Epid., Sp.OT., FICS, at Istiqlal Mosque in Jakarta on Tuesday, May 5, 2026.

The meeting discussed the progress of the Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Medical Education Program, making UIN Jakarta Faculty of Medicine the first PTKIN institution in Indonesia to offer this specialist program.

Minister Nasaruddin Umar stated his commitment to directly supporting the program’s development, including plans to visit the program’s implementation site. He also expressed readiness to coordinate with the Minister of Health.

“This is part of strengthening the role of PTKIN in strategic applied sciences, particularly specialist medical education. I am ready to assist and coordinate with the Minister of Health,” he said.

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Specialist Program at UIN Jakarta was officially established after the issuance of its decree in November 2025. This program follows the earlier development of the Pulmonology Specialist Program at the same faculty.

Dean Achmad Zaki explained that public interest in the program is high. In the first batch of admissions, eight prospective participants have registered.

The program will use Fatmawati Hospital as its main referral hospital, a vertical hospital under Indonesia’s Ministry of Health.

Since its establishment in 2005, UIN Jakarta Faculty of Medicine has graduated around 1,200 doctors. The new specialist medical program is expected to provide a continuing education pathway for its alumni and strengthen UIN Jakarta’s contribution to national healthcare development.
